Dear Mr. Jesse Jackson
We, the undersigned Arab activists, wish to raise your awareness on the case of Tal Al-Molouhi, a 19-year-old high school student whose current location and life state after one year of being arrested is completely unknown. Tal Al-Molouhi was arrested in December 2009 by Syrian security agents under a reasoning of publishing an unacceptable article on her blog. The Syrian government did not provide any comment since then, nor pointing out the “unacceptable article”. Tal has three blogs and they include articles and poems that merely support Palestinian cause, the human anywhere and everywhere, and political reforms in all Arab regimes in general (with an extremely mild tone and never talked about a specific one). Her arrest created strong shocks and reactions among the Arab bloggers and political and civil rights activists as her case was somewhat one-of-a-kind where nothing is clear nor justified about it. Syria is considered as one of the most terrible countries in terms of suppressing freedom of expression although it is fully granted by the constitution. Mr. Bashar Al-Assad, President of Syria, stated in a TV interview with Al-Jazeera Channel that: “Syrian government never arrests anyone who is practicing his/her right of expression, however, we arrest the ones who are violating laws which include: whatever act that threatens the national unity, raising sectarian and discrimination topics, and being convicted of treason”.
Tal Al-Molouhi has never broken any law. In the 1st of September 2010, the mother of Tal Al-Molouhi has appealed to President Al-Assad for Tal’s release saying that she, Tal’s mother, has knocked on every door and kept being rejected or receiving promises that did not turn into reality. The arrest of Tal has formed a devastating impact on her family and relatives due to her young age and the ambiguity that surrounds her fate. We are writing to you Mr. Jackson seeking your kind support and asking you to turn to us as you once said: “It is time for us to turn to each other, not on each other” and you instructed millions of people to “keep hope alive”.
We are aiming to lift-up Tal’s case to reach major media outlets so that the crime against her comes to an end.
Yours sincerely

O’ human, my brother, you are just like me, wherever you are. You like what I like, and hate what I hate. I like that you always live in peace and prosperity. I like to always see your smile brightening up and spreading love and cheering all over the universe. O‘ my brother, where are we keeping “love” that all God’s commandments taught us about?” --Tal Al-Molouhi
